My Personality Profile
I've taken a few personality quizzes over the course of my life, and I have to say the Myers-Biggs model pegs me perfectly.

And the band played on: small town Mo made the news ...
I just love it when small towns near me make the news.
A few years ago, it was Williamsburg, KY over the whole kicking out of a student for being gay. (Details here)
Now, it's band members over a T-shirt. (Not being kicked out, but certainly being picked on)
The band had the theme of the evolution of the brass instrument and they decided to get playful with it. The image above is what they selected.
Visit KCTV5's website to find out the full details. Basically, shit hit the fan, the T-shirt was pulled, and a new one is in the works.
The best part - it was pulled as a religious issue. One person was quoted as saying something along the line as they also would have pulled anything with religious imagery on it, such as if a biblical image was on it.
Um, only one of those two has anything to do with religion, and evolution aint it. Just because it conflicts with someone's religious belief doesn't mean it is religion. I really wish I could get everyone in the world to understand that. Forget world peace, let's have some world understanding of the vast different between science and religion. Each have their time, and their place, and they value.
Well, everyone who reads my blog with any regularity knows how I fall on this issue. So I will leave it at that.

Fuzzy Dinosaurs? A True Phoenix?
Found this article while following links from the last one. : ) (The embracing couple)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7950871.stm
I have been interested in the evolution of organisms for a long while now, and thanks my evolution class, I have a greater understanding of some things. To find that now scientists think that dinosaurs might have fur/feathers at an earlier stage that previously thought is just kinda neat. LOL
What's cooler is this guy - called Microraptor Gui.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6287367.stm
We learned about him in my Ornithology (bird) class.
He is freakishly cool. Kinda reminds me of a Phoenix. I can only image that he would have been rather lovely to look at.

Prehistoric Couple Found Embracing
This article is a bit old, dating back to Feb of 2007, but I just came across it today.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6338751.stm
BBC news doesn't offer much details, but a quick search of the words "5000 year old" and "couple hugging" returns some links with a bit more info. I just link to BBC because they seem to present a bit more fact and less speculation about the couple.
It is interesting to think about how they came to be entertwined for their eternal rest. Was it before death? Did someone "place" them together after their death? Did he died and she, knowing she was dying, wrap herself around him? Was she dead, and he held her close as he felt his own life slipping away?
We'll probabaly never know.
Anyway, I just felt like sharing. : )

Happy Birthday Charles!

WARNING: This post is on a controversial topic.
200 year ago today, the father of the theory of natural selection was born.
CHARLES DARWIN knew during his lifetime that his theories would change the world, and that many would not be happy to hear them.
Sadly, he was lacking key components that the father of genetic, Gregor Mendel, was coming to understand. Although their works were being done around the same time, On the Origin of Species, was published without the key understanding of genetics.
Despite this missing component, Darwin's ideas was mostly on point, and sparked debate, as well as a new path for science to take.
Today was owe much to his questioning of things, and to his willingness to face the challenges to his ideas, as well as the personal attacks.
From the dawn of scientific questioning, those who propose ideas that fly in the face of what is currently accepted, face a danger either to their lives, or to their livelyhoods. Even today ...
People like Darwin are the reason why I have chosen to go into the field of biology, why I want to teach, and why I contribute to conservation efforts. He is an inspiration to me.
(Those are the famous finches he studied)

Earth's Cries Recorded
I'm a geek. I've never tried to hide that. LOL Getting a degree in science simply fits me.
So when I was logging in to my email today and saw the article titled "Earth's Cries Recorded" I had to read it. http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/080701-st-earth-sounds.html
It's actually a really cool phenomenon if you think about it. Everyone I've ever talked to who has been to see the Northern Lights talks about a crackling in the air, a sound that sounds almost surreal. I hope to one day be able to hear it myself.
It's neat to know that this sound is magnified and sent out into space. Even more interesting that now we might have a way to find planets with atmospheres, due to the vibrations of the holes in them.
Simply cool.

Earth Hour
Well, Earth Hour is a but more than halfway over where I live. I've been sitting in the dark, without the hum of a fan, or anything else, for the last half hour. The TV is off ... and all I have for company is the quiet hum of the fish tank filter (didn't want to kill of the fish by turning THAT off) and my computer. My husband and daughter are in the other room reading together, with a small light on.The fish tank light is even out, which is freaking out my fish I am sure, since I feed them at night before turning off the light, and they are all near the top looking for food.
In case you are wondering what the heck I am talking about with Earth Hour, you can find out more information at http://www2.earthhourus.org/
If you didn't know about Earth Hour this year, save the URL, check it out in a few weeks, and find out when next year's Earth Hour is scheduled to take place. It's a good reminder that we need to help take care of the Earth, especially if we expect it to take care of us.
After you read about Earth Hour, visit the World Wildlife Fund website, the masterminds behinds Earth Hour, and see how you can help protect the planet. http://www.wwf.org/
